There is NOTHING disagreeable in this reformed and selective practice of Hinduism that I follow, because the The legend Travis poster shirt and by the same token and moment I feel something in the religion is not correct, I cease to follow that particular instruction, leaving me with a religion in which I do only what I am comfortable with. The orthodox followers, who follow the scriptures, to the letter, may frown but nobody owns Hinduism. So no one can excommunicate me. We don’t have a Pope. We don’t have anything like a Bible or Quran or the Torah. So no one can say that my religion is not Hinduism. I reject the hierarchy in caste and birth as a basis for one’s caste, that is traditionally underlying in orthodox Hinduism. I treat all persons on merit and claim no privileges and do not feel in any way superior for having been born as a Brahmin (South Indian, Brahmin Iyer, to be more specific). I am open to free intermixing with other castes, not just in matters of business or professional association, socialising and dining but even in matters of marriage alliances as long as the couple is compatible and happy with each other. I reject outdated Hindu practices like its treatment of widows, superstitions, and child marriages. Some horrifying practices like Sati and animal sacrifices that were practised by some sub communities too are totally rejected by me and I am not even willing to listen to any one who wants to defend these practices. Fortunately, the Hinduism I practice has no room for this and so I can proudly claim that in my personal version of Hinduism, there is nothing I disagree with.

Many Christians do seem to like the persecution complex, though. It’s like their faith is only validated if they feel they’re being discriminated against. In the US, the prominent attitude among conservative Christians seems to be that if they aren’t getting special treatment or privilege over other groups, they’re “hated” and “persecuted”. I think they need to look up the definitions of those words. Don’t hate anything. . Just walk away from it. Simple. Don’t give it a second thought. No matter what you were taught as a kid. Relax. You will find kindred spirits everywhere. Literally everywhere. Seek out “Skeptic groups”. That will lead to a calm happiness. Join the YMCA. You’ll find kindred spirits.
